About

Tajiri Ferdi Foundation

The Tajiri Ferdi Foundation (formerly Shinkichi Tajiri Stichting, 2009–2021) has since 2009 been dedicated to promoting the preservation and management of the work and personal archive of Dutch-Japanese-American artist Shinkichi Tajiri (1923–2009), his partner the Dutch artist Ferdi (Tajiri-Jansen) (1927–1969), and related artists. This has primarily resulted in support for exhibitions and publications.

In 2021 the foundation revised its statutes and now focuses on stimulating research, publications and projects about this extraordinary artist couple, their kindred spirits, and post-war avant-garde art more broadly. The foundation's starting point is Tajiri and Ferdi's rich personal archive, comprising correspondence, photographs and films, press clippings, sketches and designs, sub-collections and a library.

The foundation's primary aim is to promote access to this extensive archive for the purposes of research, education and promotion of the artistic legacy of Tajiri and Ferdi. The scholarly study and comprehensive digital opening of this archive and of their artistic oeuvre is the principal means of achieving this goal, and of ensuring that the lives and work of both artists retain a prominent place in Dutch and international art history.
